To book or not to book? That is the question. Facebook has literally taken over the world in the past year. Not only is Facebook a great social networking site that brings people together, it also has become a great marketing tool as well as an information repository for businesses today especially for IT professionals. As a former IT Administrator, I personally used and still use Facebook when researching a product or technology. I have gone to company pages a handful of times by searching within Facebook as well as a result of “Friend requests”, “Groups” or “People you may know”, as well as “Status updates” from a wide range of companies.
I believe that in today’s industry Facebook is a great place to go when looking for information on particular products, a certain field or company. As an IT Admin I would use Facebook to do research on a products or companies I was interested in learning more about. You can get a different perspective and angle about a product or company from people’s feedback on a “Fan or Company” Facebook page than you may receive on their actual website. It is just another means of getting information you may be looking for in regards to researching a certain product or solution for your IT needs.
Not only is Facebook for IT Professionals, but it is for people of all ages, from high school students to business professionals, all the way to people like my parents, (who just so happen to be retired and living down the shore!) and it’s so easy even they know how to use it. (Sorry Mom and Dad!) With its ease of use and popularity, Facebook allows companies to reach such a broad community and with today’s ever changing technology, it makes it that much easier for us to obtain this information in our everyday jobs. I really think that going forward Facebook and similar social networking tools will be the wave of the future in regards to yet another way IT professionals can obtain and use information that they may need to gather in regards to a new technology, product or company they are interested in. So go forth and Book it!!! You just may be surprised with what you will find!!
