With more employees than ever accessing and storing corporate data on mobile devices, many companies are recognizing the need for robust, cloud-based smartphone security solutions, according to a recent report from the Radicati Group.

However, companies aren't the only ones taking note of enterprise mobility. Cyber criminals are also realizing its popularity and are tailoring their malware attacks accordingly.

"The explosion in the use of mobile devices and the growth of the whole disconnected mobile workforce" is driving the need for better mobile device security, Radicati concluded with its latest research.

The firm also acknowledged that threats against mobile devices are changing all the time, meaning companies are tasked with keeping with the fluid landscape of mobile security. Deploying a cloud-based solution that is easily upgraded and tailored to new threats is one way to solve the problem, Radicati reported.

Google's Android mobile operating system has been shown to be a favorite target of cyber criminals. Security researchers recently uncovered the DroidDream Light malware, a strain of the DroidDream virus that has been giving Android users headaches for most of this year.
