Companies struggling with mobile strategies

3 Aug 2011

Even though enterprise mobility is becoming increasingly popular, and much of the workforce at the average company is armed with a smartphone, tablet or both, many organizations are still struggling with mobility strategies, according SYS-CON Media contributor Kevin Benedict.

In researching how companies are adopting mobility and using it to alter business processes, Benedict said he found many companies are lagging behind in implementing mobile solutions.

"I am seeing that it is extremely hard for a corporate IT organization to figure out an enterprise wide mobile middleware strategy," Benedict wrote. "There are so many decision points and variables that this discussion just sinks into the mire."

He added that turning to early adopters of mobility within the organization is the best means for dealing with this problem. They are the best "idea generators" and should be allowed to use new technology and enjoy the benefits.

Experts agree that implementing a mobile device management solution is a good place to start for a strategy. Focusing on MDM will allow a company to identify what they want to get out of a program, while also protecting data and budgets.
