While it's true that enterprise mobility carries myriad benefits - from greater access to business data to increased productivity among a user base - companies must also recognize the associated costs.

A recent Business Insider report highlighted several factors companies should take into consideration for mobile device management. Doing so will allow them to fully leverage smartphones and tablets, while keeping budgets in line.

Effective MDM centers on dealing with carriers and managing employees' devices.

As for carriers, companies must be sure they recognize their mobility needs to deploy the correct contract. They should also plan ahead for technology advancements. The technology of smartphones is ever increasing, causing for more data hungry users.

A main focus for managing employees' devices should be a mobility strategy. According to the report, it should "be updated, reviewed and signed by employees annually, at a minimum." That includes new hires, Business Insider was quick to point out.

These days, end-users increasingly want to choose their own devices. In fact, a recent poll of 500 workers in the United States and the U.K. revealed that 50 percent of respondents felt this way. Another 56 percent said devices make them more productive.
