The latest market research report released by Nielsen may lend some insight into the state of mobility for companies wondering where to position their mobile device management efforts. According to the research firm, at 39 percent market share, Google's Android mobile operating system continues to be the most popular smartphone platform on the market. Apple's iOS is second with 28 percent share, while Research In Motion's BlackBerry OS is third at 20 percent. Since Apple has such a strong standing in the market, despite its iPhone being the only iOS-based smartphone, Nielsen dubbed the company clearly the top smartphone manufacturer in the United States. At 14 percent market share, HTC, with it's line of Android-based smartphones, is also a top manufacturer. Motorola's Android-based devices check in with 11 percent share. Companies utilizing mobile devices can leverage market reports such as Nielsen's to predict where the consumerization of enterprise mobility is heading next. That way, experts agree, IT departments will be ready to meet the demands of mobile employees. |
