MDM solutions a must-have in the enterprise

16 Aug 2011

Outdated IT governance models and poor understanding of mobility are among the primary reasons businesses are struggling to manage their mobile deployments, according to Forbes contributor Burak Bilir.

For companies that allow employees to use devices of their choosing, the burden of managing them becomes even more difficult. However, workers prefer a device they are more comfortable with, so businesses are forced to decide between greater productivity or easier management.

Some businesses have simply refused to provide employees with the option to use mobile devices for work. According to Bilir, this seriously risks greater business opportunities solely to avoid altering IT governance strategies that no longer apply to modern business.

"Our research shows that IT executives are facing formidable challenges around how to effectively secure and manage the tidal wave of mobile devices and applications being used in the enterprise - and they are reacting defensively by attempting to continue age-old IT governance, management and purchasing models that don’t work any more," Bilir wrote for the news provider.

A report from market research firm IDC echoed Bilir's sentiments. The company recently found mobile devices and MDM are crucial to competing in the modern business landscape.
