Profiling helps choose which mobile device is best

31 Aug 2011

When an organization is trying to decide on a mobile device management policy and which mobility strategy to use, some experts say that profiling seems to be one of the most effective methods for determining the gadget.

Profiling is the analysis of memory usage, how particular instructions are carried out and other frequent needs that organizations will require of the mobile device. In a recent report for Computerworld UK, IDC analysts explained that using this method, IT departments can assess how the organization can use a mobile device to its full potential. However, many departments decide to provide blanket technologies for all employees, which does not maximize mobile investments, the news source reported.

When deciding on the smartphone, tablet or other mobile device, the organization should consider each job task, the level of mobility needed for that particular sector as well as the compliance and regulations that need to be met to minimize problematic incidents from occurring. Since making the switch to mobile devices may be overwhelming, IDC stated that beginning with profiling answers the question of where the business should start.

Tablets are one device that seem to be finding more favor among businesses, as 25 percent of the activity on iPads and 20 percent on Android tablets is business-related, Social Nuggets reported. However, profiling which of these tablets is best for an organization should be completed before investing in a specific device.
