Report: Apple continues dominance of tablet market
26 Aug 2011
Try as they may, competitors simply can't touch Apple and its widely popular iPad when it comes to the tablet market. The device has enjoyed overwhelming market share since being introduced in April 2010, and its lead doesn't appear to be waning. According to a new report from IHS iSuppli, Apple is predicted to ship 44.2 million iPads this year. That's slightly more than than 43.7 million the research firm previously forecasted. IHS iSuppli has also adjusted its long-term outlook for the iPad. In 2015, the firm has forecasted, Apple will sell 120.1 million units, up from the previous prediction of 97.9 million. "All the momentum in the media tablet market is with Apple right now," Rhoda Alexander, senior manager of tablet and monitor research for IHS, said. "The competition can't seem to field a product with the right combination of hardware, marketing, applications and content to match up with the iPad." In-Stat also recently released a market research report that predicted big things for tablets in the future. About a quarter of a billion tablets will be sold in 2017, the firm said, as the popularity of the device continues to grow. |
