Enterprise tablet adoption fueled by falling prices

Manufacturers can expect more companies to adopt tablets for enterprise mobility as more devices are introduced to the market and prices begin to fall, according to a recent report from FierceMobileIT.

Controlling costs is always a top priority for companies' mobile device management programs. Many firms should be encouraged by decreasing prices, especially those attached to Android-based devices. According to the new provider, the prices for many tablets figure to decrease to the range of $200 to $300 as soon as this fall.

"So far, it appears the consumerization effect of tablets has been minimal, with enterprises choosing to buy them and either replace or augment computers," FierceMobileIT editor Lynnette Luna wrote. "But the cheaper price tag is likely to change that, putting tablets on par with the smartphone consumerization trend."

For vendors, Luna argued, dropping the prices of their products may be their only shot of competing with the iPad.

Overall, the popularity of tablets continues to rise, and impact the market for other technology. Research firm Gartner recently scaled back its sales estimates for PCs from 9.3 percent growth down to 3.8 percent, due in part to the enthusiasm for tablets.
