Some IT professionals who responded to a recent survey said they didn't believe personally owned were in use at their companies, though such smartphone and tablet activity was rampant. The poll, conducted by Dimensional Research, revealed that 32 percent of respondents said unauthorized personally owned devices don't access their network. However, 87 percent acknowledged that employees use personally owned devices for work purposes. Still, other results showed that IT professionals recognize the need for mobile device management policies for consumer-based technology. Eighty-eight percent said such policies are important to very important. However, only 19 percent said their companies have a limited support list, while just 17 percent support all types of devices. As cited by 98 percent of respondents, email was the common use for personally owned devices among the mobile workforce. That was followed by calendaring, at 83 percent. The consumerization of enterprise mobility has been recognized by many within the industry. Sam Liu, the vice president of marketing at Partnerpedia, a provider of enterprise app store solutions, recently told TMCnet that Apple's iOS will be the most common platform among mobile professionals in the near future. |
